4-H to hold three new clubs

Posted

ARENAC COUNTY— The Arenac County 4-H spin club will be holding three new six-week-long clubs starting in January. A scholarship from the Arenac County 4-H Foundation will cover the $20 annual participation fee so the clubs are free for those enrolled in 4-H. They will have Cardio Drumming for Kids, Teen Cuisine– Making Friends in the Kitchen, and Coding.

According to 4-H STEAM corps coordinator, Missy LeFever, coding is becoming increasingly popular amongst kids today. The club was filling up quickly and LeFever said there was a waitlist progressing. The club is for ages 8-14 and will explore careers around coding as well as teaching computer science skills.

Coding meets Tuesdays from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m at the Arenac Community Center.

The Teen Cuisine club is one that is being brought back by popular demand. The club meets on Thursdays from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Arenac Community Center and is for ages 12-14. There are still openings for kids to learn kitchen skills and receive recipes that they will be able to try out and take home for their families.

Cardio Drumming for Kids will be on Mondays from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Arenac Community Center. Kids will learn healthy exercises and nutrition habits. The equipment is provided, but participants should bring their own water bottle and wear appropriate work out clothing.

The club is also looking for more volunteers to donate their time and skills. There will be a volunteer open house Jan. 20 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Arenac Community Center. LeFever said they are always looking for volunteers and if anyone has an interest or skill they would like to share, it could make for a great club for kids.

The clubs run on a six-week format, meeting for an hour or hour and a half each week, so it would be a short-term commitment for volunteers.

LeFever said some kids have shown an interest in areas like photography to crocheting and there is a wide variety of subjects to be explored in 4-H.
