15th Annual Depot Days held in Standish

STANDISH — The Standish Historical Depot celebrated its 130th birthday with its annual Depot Days Oct. 5-6.

The event featured cookoffs, amusement rides, a silent auction, a petting zoo, horse-drawn wagon rides and local vendors, among other attractions.

Depot Manager Brenda Matt said that the event went smoothly, thanks to public involvement and a little fortunate cooperation from the weather.

“We had a really good turnout,” Matt said. “We think it went really well.”

The cookoffs seemed to be the highlight of the event, drawing more entries than previous years.

“We had more chilis than we’ve had before, more soups, more brownies,” Matt said. “It was a very good response.”

Matt said organizers are already looking toward future Depot Days events, and encouraged the public to make suggestions for future activities.

“We’re trying to get some ideas to add anything or do things different just to spark things up a bit, so if anyone has any suggestions, they’re more than welcome to submit them.”

Matt said she was happy to see the level of attendance this year and was appreciative to the community for its support.
