Leo Carl Schultz

Leo Carl Schultz passed away on April 23, 2023 in his Florida home one day before his 83rd birthday.

Leo was born on April 24, 1940, to Leo and Mary Gladys Schultz in Detroit, MI. When his father retired, they moved to Omer, MI, and he attended Arenac Schools. There he met and married his high school sweetheart JoAnn (Gotham) Schultz. He and JoAnn moved to the greater Detroit area where he worked and retired from Ford Motor Company. There they raised their four children. Upon retiring, he and his wife JoAnn moved back up north to Au Gres, MI. They lived there for over 20 years.

They had a winter place in Lakeland, Florida. Leo and his wife Jo were very active in St. Mark’s Catholic Church in Au Gres, MI. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus.

He was also a member of the Au Gres Lion’s Club.

He loved being involved in community events. He and his wife were avid golfers, and they loved the water and liked to fish. He enjoyed deer, rabbit and pheasant hunting. He also had a love for all sports.

He played baseball and Died April 23, 2023

basketball in high school and coached his three sons in baseball.

Leo is survived by his four children: Susan (Timothy) Wren of Metamora, MI, Michael (Kimberly) Schultz of Clarkston, MI, Gregory (Katherine) Schultz of Portage, MI, and James Schultz of Waterford, MI. He is also survived by 11 grandsons, one granddaughter and one great-granddaughter.

He is also survived by one brother-in-law Robert Morgan and his special friend Elizabeth Jean Nixon and many extended family members.

Leo is preceded in death by his wife of almost 57 years JoAnn (Gotham) Schultz. His parents Leo and Mary Schultz, his sister’s (and their spouses) Leona (Robert) Cowper and Patricia (Ronald) Frundl. Father-in-law/ Mother-in-law Jack and Helen Gotham, brotherin- law Jack Gotham and sister-in-law Yvonne (Gotham) Morgan, Carol and Susan Gotham.

A memorial mass will be held at a later date.
