Francis “Red” Earl Nickell, age 78, of Turner, passed away on May 16, 2023.
Red was born on May 5, 1945 in Burleigh Township to the late Pat and Myrtle (Nichols) Nickell. An unusual waist deep snow fall happened on the 5th and Dr.
Earl Hasty almost did not make it to the home to help deliver Red.
On April 25, 1987 Red married the love of his life, Frances (Burtch) Nickell.
Together they raised six wonderful children. Red was a heavy equipment operator for many years.
He worked for United States Gypsum for 17 years. He and Fran owned Nickell Sand and Grav-el, and Red’s Place. He was the Fire Chief of the Whittemore- Burleigh-Reno Fire Department and a first responder. Red loved hunting, fishing, bird watching, wood working and making things for family and friends. Most of all he loved spending time with his family and friends.
Red is survived by his wife, Fran; son, Randy (Lisa) Letts; daughters, Carrie (Richard) Petri, Belinda (Joe) Roberts, Missy (Melvin) Hottois, and Laura (Joe) Montepetit; son-in-law, Dave Co-rey; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; special friends Sharon Kelly, Arlene Jordan, Greg (Patti) Kopkau and Rob (Judy) Cook; and many more family and friends.
Red was preceded in death by his parents and daughter, April Corey.
Services for Red were held at Buresh Funeral Home in Twining, visitation on Monday, May 22, from 2 to 7 p.m. Funeral was on Tuesday, May 23, at noon, with visitation at 11 a.m. and grave-side services following at All Saints Cemetery, Whittemore. A luncheon following the conclusion of services at the Methodist Church in Whittemore.
