An Arenac Fireworks Golf Outing fundraiser will be held Saturday, June 24 at Huron Breeze Golf Club in Au Gres, with proceeds benefiting the annual Arenac Fireworks display in Au Gres on July 1. The fireworks display is 100 percent supported by donations.

Alger receives grant for failed Forrest Lake Dam

ALGER — In a significant development aimed at ensuring the safety of residents and mitigating risks, the Forest Lake Property Owners Association in Alger has been awarded a grant of $2,320,497. The funds will be utilized for the rehabilitation of the Forrest Lake Dam, which suffered extensive damage during the flooding disaster in May 2020. This grant is part of the Dam Risk Reduction Grant Program (DRRGP) established by the Michigan Legislature last year.

Council approves claim waiver, discusses Au Gres events

AU GRES — Au Gres City Council held its regular meeting on May 2 during which council discussed foreclosed properties that will be up for tax sale this year. The Arenac County Treasurer sent a list of properties to the council, including a boat slip in Harbortown and the lot next to Freakin' Pickles on US23. The City Council determined that they had no interest in these properties and recommended approving a waiver of claim.

The annual golf outing for Arenac Community Funds will take place at Huron Breeze Golf Course in Au Gres, 5200 E. Huron Breeze Dr. on Friday, May 19 at 10 a.m. There will be coffee, donuts, lunch, dinner, a shrimp barbecue, and par 3 competitions with prizes. Residents are invited to join the Standish Area Chamber of Commerce on Saturday, May 20 at 7 p.m. at 2723 Grove Street Road in Standish for an 80’s themed adult prom. The event will include live music, refreshments, drink, raffles, and dancing, and will be held at the Flying Pig Venue, 2723 Grove Street Road in Standish.
