OMER — This year’s Omer Suckerfest, held April 1–9, highlighted anglers of all ages competing to win their share of tournament prizes. On April 8, the kid’s Suckerfest Fishing Tournament was held and included prizes, gift cards, a bounce house and Easter Egg Hunt, and local shoppers perused a variety of goods during the Suckerfest Flea Market.

STANDISH — This year will mark five decades of Loyalty Day being celebrated in Standish. The 50th Annual Loyalty Day Parade has been set for Saturday, April 29 at noon.

Could these cookies be any more perfect for springtime? I think not. They're sweet, pastel and light as a feather. The technique of making meringue has been used in European baking since the 17th century and is a staple ingredient in classic desserts like pavlova and lemon meringue pie.

Members of the Rotary Club of Pinconning and Standish were proud to volunteer during this year’s Saginaw Bay Nature Festival, where they sorted trees and shrubs at the annual Arenac Conservation District tree and shrub sale.

ARENAC COUNTY — The new Veterans’ Affairs Committee has been formed in Standish. Members said their main goals are to help Arenac County veterans as well as reach out to younger veterans throughout the community.
