Rose Marie Zuchnik, 89, passed away Saturday, Sept. 9, 2017, at MediLodge of Sterling.

She was born to Oliver and Margaret (Norris) Johnson on Dec. 23, 1927. Rose married James Nagy Jr. at the Community Methodist Church in Standish on Nov. 30, 1946; he preceded her in death Feb. 12, 1956. Rose later married John Zuchnik at the St. Florian Catholic Church in Standish on April 19, 1958. Upon graduating in 1945 from Sterling High School, she attended Arenac County Normal and went on to be a teacher. Rose taught school for three years. She also worked at the Sterling theater, Stagray’s Farm Market and local restaurants. She was employed at the Sterling Area Health Clinic for several years as the head (Queen) custodian before retiring.

Dancing was Rose’s passion. Classic country and polka music were often heard in her home. She also enjoyed volunteering with her husband John at MediLodge, watching the Tigers and sharing some good laughs with family and friends.

Rose is survived by four children, Janet Burkhardt, Jack (Annette) Nagy, Jeanine (James) Stamm and Jerry Zuchnik; grandchildren, James (Sherlyn) Burkhardt, Jennifer Nagy, Rhonda Konopa, Jared (Casey) Zuchnik and Clayton (Melisa) Rys; great-grandchildren, Madissen, Adelyn, Blaine, Madison, Josiah, Elijah, Calum, Kevin (Amanda), Caitlin and Elise; great-great-grandchildren, Alayna and Grayson; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Jim (Linda) Browne, Charlotte Bessey and Dennis (Phyllis) Kolevar all played important roles in Rose’s life. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

Rose was preceded in death by her two husbands, James Nagy Jr. and John Zuchnik; her parents; and special aunt and uncle, Grace and Albert Browne.

Family will greet friends at the Lee-Ramsay Funeral Home Standish Chapel on Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2017, from 2-8 p.m. Rose’s funeral Mass will take place Thursday, Sept. 14, at 10 a.m. at the Resurrection of the Lord Catholic Church, 423 W. Cedar St. in Standish, with Father Gerald Balwinski presiding. She will lie in state at the church from 9 a.m. until service time. Burial will follow at the Sterling Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the wishes of the family.

The family expresses their sincere appreciation and gratitude to the entire staff of MediLodge of Sterling, St. Mary’s of Michigan Standish and Saginaw hospitals and Heartland Hospice of West Branch for the wonderful care given to Rose.
