Richard James Stanley, 78, of Au Gres, loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2019, at his residence with his family by his side after a long battle with Alzheimer’s.

He was born July 26, 1940, in Sterling to the late Shirley and Edna (Daniels) Stanley. Richard married Dianna Zawacki Sept. 26, 1959, in Standish. He was a boilermaker welder at Dow Chemical for 27 years and a proud member of United Steelworkers Local 12075 until his retirement in 1994. He was a volunteer fireman with Gibson Township Fire Department for many years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, making maple syrup, woodworking, traveling and spending time with family and friends.

Richard is survived by his wife of 59 years, Dianna; and their three children, Dan (Jolyn) Stanley, Dave (Del) Stanley and Deana (Chuck) Garry. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Laura, Lisa, Anna, Sara, Aimee, Nikole and Whitney; three great-grandchildren, Everett, Jacob and Gavin; and three brothers, Larry (Jan) Stanley, Leonard (Judy) Stanley and Louis (Michelle) Stanley.

He was predeceased by one brother, Gary Stanley.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Jan. 12, 2019, at 11 a.m. at the Resurrection of the Lord Catholic Church, Standish, with the Rev. Father David Parsch officiating. Cremation will follow. Richard will lie in state at Resurrection of the Lord Catholic Church from 9 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, 2019, until time of Mass at 11 a.m.

Those considering an expression of sympathy are asked to consider Compassus Hospice in lieu of flowers.
