Prizes up for grabs during Sportsmen’s sucker tournament
STERLING — Children up to 18 years old can try to hook the biggest sucker during the Sterling Sportsmen’s Association’s sucker tournament Sunday, April 23, and by doing so will have the chance to win one of many prizes.
“They can win anything from a dollar store toy all the way up to a turkey hunt, rod and reel combo and tackle boxes,” said Sportsmen’s President Todd Switala.
The tournament is free to enter and participants will compete in divisions separated by age. Switala said entrants need to fish near the Sportsmen’s clubhouse.
“All fishing needs to be done at the club,” he said. “They need to come inside to register. They need to bring their own equipment.”
Children must be accompanied by an adult, Switala said. The tournament has been held for more than 20 years, he said.
The sucker tournament is scheduled to run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Sterling Sportsmen’s Association’s clubhouse is located 339 S. Melita Rd. in Sterling.
