Prizes, food and more included at ACF golf outing

STANDISH — When golf teams hit the links to raise money for the Arenac Community Funds General Endowment Fund at the Pine River Golf Course in Standish May 19, they’ll have plenty of chances to win prizes and enjoy food included with the registration.

ACF Committee member Dale Wiess said multiple course challenges will be held for those who tee up Friday morning. Each par 3 will feature a closest-to-the-pin contest, Wiess said, and those winners will compete for another prize.

“We’re going to have four golfers that are closest to the pin and four that are drawn from a hat,” he said. “Eight people are going to shoot from 150 yards out and the closest to the pin on the green wins. If no one gets on the green then it’s closest to it, period. That happens after the golf outing is over with.”

One of those eight will bring home the $250 cash prize, Wiess said. Each individual closest to the hole winner will get a separate prize, too, he said. Longest drives and longest putt prizes will be awarded to one man and one woman per contest, Wiess said.

A board that participants can buy numbers for will be available, and the person with the winning number will receive a grill and a Michigan flag that was flown over the state capitol building, Wiess said.

Included in registration is also free keg beer and barbecued shrimp on the course, and a steak or chicken dinner — the preference of the golfer — is served after the outing, Wiess said.

So far, the weather seems to be looking good for the outing, Wiess said.

“By the looks of it, we’re supposed to have nice weather this year,” he said.

Registration is $100 per person or $400 per foursome. The event begins at 10 a.m. The registration deadline was posted as May 16, but Wiess said teams can be added late if spots are available. Corporate sponsorships, which include a team and a tee sponsor sign, are $500.
