Learning fire prevention

Standish Elementary students learned valuable information about fire prevention and safety when the Standish Area Fire Authority visited the school Oct. 20. Students were told to call 911 in case of a fire and to stop, drop and roll if their clothing ever catches fire. The Sterling Area Fire Department smokehouse, which fills up with non-harmful smoke, was on the premises, and children learned how to safely exit a burning structure in the smokehouse. Students were also able to spray a fire hose during the day.
