Kathleen S. (Hart) Schnetzler

Died April 1, 2017


Kathleen Suzanne (Hart) Schnetzler, 92, of Standish passed away at home April 1, 2017.

She was born April 8, 1924, in Saginaw to the late George E. and Hilda M. (Schaefer) Hart. She graduated from Saginaw Saints Peter and Paul High School in 1942. She attended St. Mary’s Hospital nurse’s training program where she earned her certification as a registered nurse. She worked a number of years as a nurse before marrying Wallace C. (Bud) Schnetzler on Sept. 4, 1948, in Saginaw. Wallace preceded her in death on December 4, 2015. She was a member of the Resurrection of the Lord Catholic Church in Standish where she taught catechism for many years. She was also a member of the American Cancer Society and the Standish Community Hospital Auxiliary. Kathleen enjoyed walking, golf, playing bridge and spending summers at Au Sable Lake with her family. She will be remembered by her family and so many friends, young and old, as a caring and supportive individual who opened her home and her heart to so many people. She used her nursing and mothering skills for all the kids in the neighborhood as well as so many others, no matter when or where.

Surviving are one daughter, Mary Beth (Mark) Vanderlist of Big Rapids; sons, Charles (Jody) Schnetzler of Alma, Bryan Schnetzler of Harrisville and Robert (Terri) Schnetzler of Melita; five grandchildren, Travis (Jessica), Ryan (Jenny) and Lauren Vanderlist, Dru (Ryan) Fisher, Chad (J.J.) Epperly and Charles Schnetzler II; and four great-grandchildren, Benjamin, Jackson and Campbell Vanderlist, Riki Epperley and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Kathleen was preceded in death by her daughter Amy Jo; sisters, Patricia Kliefoth and Constance Jessmore; and brother, Richard Hart.

The family would like to thank Jill Flores, Kathy Stodolak, Melissa Friday and Lee Protasiewicz for their loving care of their mother.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday, April 6, 2017, at 11 a.m. at the Resurrection of the Lord Catholic Church with the Rev. Fr. David Parsch presiding with interment in Resurrection of the Lord Cemetery. Family will greet family and friends Wednesday, April 5, 2017, from 1-8 p.m. at the Lee-Ramsay Funeral Home Standish Chapel. Kathleen will lie in state Thursday at the church from 10 a.m. until time of Mass at 11 a.m. Those wishing an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the Schnetzler Scholarship Fund at the Standish-Sterling Central High School, the American Cancer Society or the Alzheimer’s Association Greater Michigan Chapter.
