Jean Audrey Lentz, 88, of Standish passed away Monday, Feb. 19, 2018, after a brief illness.

Audrey, a longtime resident of Arenac County, was born Jan. 26, 1930, in Pontiac to Clarence and Gladys Brown. She was raised by her parents near Prescott and married Francis Lentz from nearby Standish on March 17, 1951. A graduate of Michigan State University, she spent many rewarding years as a high school teacher, retiring after 30 years with Standish-Sterling Community Schools.

Audrey actively pursued a number of interests, including hunting and fishing in Northern Ontario near the family cabin. More recently she became an avid member of the local chapter of the Michigan Association of Retired School Personnel and became actively involved in local senior citizen programs. She especially loved playing euchre with fellow seniors and watching Michigan State University basketball and Tigers baseball games. Always community-minded, Audrey was also active in the Arenac County Historical Society and the Omer Bakers group. She was committed to restoring Ye Olde Courthouse in Omer, contributing dozens of loaves of her delicious home-baked bread to its fundraisers.

Audrey is survived by two daughters, Linda (Rod) Gillings of Prescott and Shelly (Dave) Fales of Standish; three grandchildren, Carrie Fales of Wilmington, N.C., Wesley (Jolene) Fales of Standish and Spencer Gillings of Prescott, in addition to several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Francis; and two brothers, Jack and Glenn Brown.

A memorial service in her honor will be held Friday, March 2, at 2 p.m. at Lee-Ramsay Funeral Home, Standish. A luncheon at Divine Shepherd Christian Church, 4335 M-61, Standish, will immediately follow the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Arenac County Historical Society for Ye Olde Courthouse in Omer, Attn: Joann Gulau, 2274 Bay Ridge Drive, Au Gres, MI 48703.
