George Zoyiopoulos, 82, of Au Gres, formerly of Grosse Ile, passed away Thursday afternoon, June 28, 2018, at home with his family by his side.

George was born March 27, 1936, in Mount Clemens to the late Arthur and Bertha E. (Dubay) Zoyiopoulos.

He proudly served in the U.S. Army from Aug. 5, 1954 to July 21, 1956. George was an engineer for Ford Motor Company until his retirement in 1991. He married the former Marcia Poole on June 14, 1985, and she survives him. George and Marcia shared many years of sailing, skiing, golfing and travel. He loved to carve wood of any variety and loved passing on those skills even more. He was a member of the Ford Yacht Club since 1971 and the Au Gres Yacht Club since 1991.

In addition to his loving wife, Marcia, George is survived by his sons, Tom Zoyiopoulos and George Zoyiopoulos; brothers-in-law, Bert (Jeanie) Poole and Richard Poole; sisters-in-law, Janet Greenup, Mary (Bethany) Poole, Lynn Zoyiopoulos and Sally Zoyiopoulos; and many nieces and nephews and friends.

In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by brothers, Robert Zoyiopoulos and James Zoyiopoulos; and brother-in-law, Eddie Greenup.

According to George’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of George’s life will take place at noon Tuesday, July 24, 2018, at the Au Gres Yacht Club, 3232 E. Midshipman Drive, Au Gres, MI 48703, where military honors will be rendered. Inurnment will take place at a later date in Great Lakes National Cemetery, 4200 Belford Rd., Holly, MI 48442.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Arenac County Animal Shelter, 3750 Foco Rd., Standish, MI 48658; Compassus Hospice, 3217 W. M-76, #B, West Branch, MI 48661; or Au Gres Christian Charities, 415 S. Court St., Au Gres, MI 48703.

George’s family would like to extend a special thank you to Compassus Hospice of West Branch, Heather 1 and Heather 2, and everyone at Iosco County Medical Care Facility for their kind and compassionate care.
