STERLING — Warm weather and sunny skies aided the Sterling Sportsmen Association as it held its annual kids’ sucker fishing tournament Saturday, April 14 at its clubhouse on the Rifle River.

Prizes were handed out to participants, with the kids garnering the largest catches getting first pick. These ranged from fishing equipment to action figures and games.

An estimated 135 kids participated in the event, which ran from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. Todd Switala, one of the event organizers, said many kids opted to fish from the riverfront abetting the nearby White’s Livery, where they had permission to drop their lines.
