You sank my battleship

So I was relaxing and surfing the web at home after work the other day and discovered that the board game Battleship is going to be made into a movie.

Is it just me, or is this the most boring idea for a movie ever?

Seriously, a movie based on a board game. A game you play when you are bored. I mean, who remembers the movie based on Clue? Well I don’t because I was not even born yet.

When I was younger I loved playing games with my parents and grandparents. I played Guess Who? for hours with anyone who would dare challenge me. And who could forget Sorry? That was the most intense game ever. Well, it was the most intense at the dinner table anyway.

Maybe I am out of touch with what people want to see made into a movie, but I would think that this is not it. Haven’t board games passed their prime?

I have an 8-year-old brother, and he is not into board games like he is into video games and movies.

Again, maybe it’s just me, but I think that board games are a thing of the past. Technology has advanced so much between my generation and my brother’s.

I know that when I was his age, I had know idea how to operate a computer, but he knows exactly how to get his favorite games up and running.

Please don’t get me wrong here, if someone asked me to play a game of Battleship or Candyland, I would throw down and take on all challengers. But I would much rather play a game of Halo on my Xbox. Now there is a movie based on a game that I could really get into.

But how do you base a movie on a board game? Do you set up kids on each side of a table and have them yell, “You sank my battleship”? I would love to see the dramatic cut scenes in that film. The placing of the little red peg into the ship is just so dramatic; I would be on the edge of my seat.

Overall, I guess there are a lot of bad movie ideas these days. Some even have made a ton of money. So it could be worse, there could be another Twilight movie. Wait, there’s going to be another one of those too.
