Work begins on southbound US-23

ARENAC COUNTY — Repairs on the bridge on southbound US-23, which connects to I-75, began on Monday.

According to the Michigan Department of Transportation, the repair work includes heat straightening and bolted repairs on the structural steel areas of the bridge.

A single, right lane, closure will remain in effect on southbound US-23 at Melita Road under the bridge, said a press release from MDOT, adding that the southbound US-23 ramp to northbound I-75 will remain open just west of Melita Road.

An MDOT bridge crew will also perform routine traffic control during the bridge project, which is scheduled to be complete towards the end of October.
