W-P grinds out first conference win
WHITTEMORE — Wednesday Sept. 24 — In a contest that saw all but one final score within three, W-P earned its first conference win over Pinconning 3-2 (26-24, 22-25, 27-25, 11-25, 16-14). Needing extra points in each of their three wins, the Lady Cards found the will-to-win in the close conference battle that has eluded their potential for most of the season.
Coach Helen Loomis was ecstatic with her team’s performance, showing the resiliency to lose big in the fourth game and then bounce right back to win in a nail-biter.
“We had a much better serving game tonight and our defense started reading their tips more as the night went on,” Loomis said. “I was very pleased to finally see a never-die-attitude in the team.”
Loomis called the match “a long in coming conference win”.
“With exceptional net play from Larrissa McGeathy, diving digs from Chloe Moraitis and consistent, aggressive play from everyone, it made for an exciting victory for W-P,” Loomis said.
