WHITTEMORE — Whittemore-Prescott (W-P) played host to Skeels Christian, Tawas Area, Arenac Eastern, Lincoln-Alcona, Hale and Standish-Sterling (SSC) at its invitational tournament Saturday Oct. 11.

Defeating Skeels (25-13, 25-9), Tawas (25-16, 25-23) and Arenac Eastern (25-8, 25-10) in pool play, the Lady Cards set themselves up for a top seed in the bracket portion of the tournament.

After running through their first two opponents, Alcona (25-13, 25-23) and Hale (25-14, 25-8), W-P would meet Northeast Michigan Conference opponent SSC in the finals.

According to Coach Helen Loomis, W-P didn’t play as well as they did in the previous games of the day as the Cards went on to lose 20-25 and 18-25.

“The girls played well throughout the day,” Loomis said. “Communication was much better and they served consistently and with precision.

Unfortunately, we didn’t play quite as well in the finals against Standish.”

Loomis remains optimistic with the season winding down and playoffs just around the corner.

“We’re happy with the results and hope to continue to improve,” Loomis said.

W-P Stats: Cortney Bork – 46 points, 17 aces, 35 digs; Kayla Camp – 19 points, 5 aces, 67 assists, 38 digs; Chelsea Jasman – 27 points, 6 aces, 4 block-kills, 16 spike-kills; Leighanna Loomis – 41 points, 12 aces, 46 digs, 13 spike-kills; Larrissa McGeathy – 17 points, 8 aces, 4 block-kills, 29 spike-kills; Chloe Moraitis – 32 digs, 28 spike-kills.

W-P (1-6, 10-12-1) travels to Bangor John Glenn Wednesday Oct. 15.
