W-P and SSC to square off in Alumni Legends game Sept. 21
STANDISH –– Standish-Sterling and Whittemore-Prescott will be breaking out the pads and helmets once again this year as alumni from the respective schools will face each other in a rematch on Sept. 21.
The football game will be held under the lights at Standish-Sterling Central High School with kickoff scheduled for 7:30 p.m., and tickets cost $5.
W-P coach Kyle Tobin said the Cardinals will be getting ready the day of the game and will rotate freely.
“Hopefully they will get in decent playing shape,” Tobin said. “I think our roster is around 30 players, which is a little less than last year.”
“They are all legends … in their own minds,” he added. “Truly, last year was one of the most memorable experiences I have had as a football coach.”
According to Tobin, this is game all about staying safe and having fun.
“These guys are paying $75 to put on a uniform and be a part of a team, maybe for the last time,” Tobin said. “Both teams are going to be fired up and fans are in for a treat. The money we raise goes directly back to the two football programs and I can’t wait to see it happen!”
Participation for the event is open to all alumni of both schools who have been out of high school for at least one year (no 2013 graduates).
Registration forms are available on the Standish-Sterling school website under the Community Education menu.
For more information contact the Standish-Sterling Athletics Department at 989-846-3644.
All proceeds from the event are split between the two schools, with all money going to support their athletic programs.
