Voters to cast ballots Nov. 3

ARENAC COUNTY — Another election approaches, as this year in Arenac County, voters will cast their ballots for candidates for Omer City Council, Standish City Council and Arenac Eastern’s Board of Education and non-homestead millage.

In the city of Omer, voters will choose between Susan Hegenauer and Sue Oliver for city clerk. All other seats are uncontested.

In Standish, voters supporting some candidates, as two write-ins have filed for the election.

In Ward III, incumbent Jerry Nelson’s name will appear on the ballot, however, the race is not uncontested, as city resident Donna Bouldin has filed as a write-in.

The Mayoral race, which features current council member Mark Winslow, is also contested, despite the name of the second candidate, Dave Munson, not appearing on the ballot. Munson filed as a write-in.

No other Standish City Council seats feature contested races.

As for the Arenac Eastern School District, voters will decide whether or not they will support the 18-mill non-homestead millage, which is expected to generate about $279,000 for the district in 2010. The millage would be renewed for 2010 – 2012.

Two candidates – Jerry Hollenbeck and Sue Wilson – have filed for two vacant school board seats on the AE Board of Education.

Maybe if Jerry Nelson wasn't being so 2 faced about his politics he would get more support. Raising a vote to remove detainees from the resolution last week and saying he didn't want gitmo detainees sounded good. Then he did an interview saying that the resolution was an open invitation for gitmo. I was shocked to see that after what was said at the meeting. The mayor pro tem should pick a side and stand on it instead of being so 2 faced with his politics.

What kind of people stand behind someone that SAYS SOME SHOULD BE SHOT when they are speaking in a church.

Is this the kind of radical you want running this city. Why isnt anyone talking about the real issues that are effecting the city now like what we are going to do when the prison closes in the next couple days.

Everyone is wasting there energy on something that isnt even in our control. These people going on the news everyday, Saying people should be shot, pickitng all over the city are mking the City of Stadish look like a bunch of rednecks way to GO!!!!!!!
