USDA Grant to fund telemedicine system in area


MICHIGAN — The United States Department of Agriculture awarded two Rural Development Distance Learning and Telemedicine grants Friday, with one worth $461,212 being awarded to the Mid Michigan Visiting Nurses Association.

According to Rep. Bart Stupak’s (D – Menominee) office, the $461,212 is for the “purchase equipment for a mobile telemedicine system that will allow home care providers to transmit and monitor the health status of 740 cardiac post surgical patients and hospice patients over a rural 12-county area, including Arenac, Bay, Gladwin and Ogemaw Counties.”

A grant valued at $272,555 was also awarded to the Marquette General Health System Friday.
