UPDATED: Pinny harriers lead local effort at Tawas
TAWAS -- Pinconning high school's boys and girls teams turned in solid performances at the five-team Tawas Cross-Country Invitational Wednesday, Oct. 14 as the Spartan girls took first in their race while the boys took second in theirs.
Pinconning's Ben Hemstreet won the boys' race in 17:54 -- a personal best time.
Emily Podgorniak led the Spartan girls team to first in their race, placing second in 21:24. Emily Short of Tawas won the girls race in 19:55.
Standish-Sterling Central won the boys race, led by Nick Brandenburg’s third place finish in 19:24. The Panthers’ Daren Johnson was fourth (20:01), Aaron Colamarino fifth (20:09), Duane Bean 10th (20:35), and Frank Michalke 11th (20:37).
Jessica Vidalez followed Podgorniak in order of finish for the Pinconning girls’ team, finishing third with a personal-best time of 21:29. The Spartans’ Shannon McDougall placed sixth (23:31), Jenn Bargeron took ninth (24:47), and Chelsey Szyperski 10th (24:50).
Drew Hoder followed Hemstreet in order of finish for the Pinconning boys’ team, placing second with a personal-best time of 18:29. The Spartans’ Travis Wascher placed eighth (20:27), David Bellville 15th (21:27), and Trever McAlpine 18th (21:39).
SSC finished third in the girls’ race, while Hale finished fourth in both the boys and girls races.
Hale’s Lauren Brown placed fourth in the girls’ race, finishing in 22:23, while SSC’s Sara Stanley and Ashley Pickvet finished fifth (22:37) and seventh (23:34), respectively.
Caleb Parent led the Hale boys’ team, placing sixth in 20:11.
