UPDATED FRIDAY @ 3 P.M.: One reported dead after fire in Sims Township

SIMS TOWNSHIP — One person was reported dead after a fire in Sims Township ravaged a home in the 4200 block of East Michigan Avenue on Thursday.
“We did find a male victim inside,” said AuGres-Sims-Whitney Fire Department Chief Kurt Humerickhouse. “He was identifiable, that it was a person, but he was burned pretty badly.”
As of Friday afternoon, Humerickhouse dais the victim had not been identified. The cause, under investigation by Michigan State Police Fire Marshall Dale Hardy, Gaylord Post, has also not been identified.
“We got the call at 5:51 a.m. We were on scene at 6:05 a.m.,” Humerickhouse said. “It was basically engulfed, pretty close, when the neighbor spotted it.”
He also added that members of the fire department stayed on scene until 5:35 p.m. Aug. 6. Assisting at the scene were the AuGres-Sims Police Department and the Arenac County Sheriff’s Office.
The fire also caused damage to the neighboring house to the east, melting siding and soffit.
