Trombley and Williams register hat tricks
Standish opens soccer season with 6-3 win
GLADWIN -- Tanner Trombley and Dylan Williams played tricks on Gladwin as the two Standish-Sterling Central soccer players each recorded three-goal hat tricks to lead the Panthers in a 6-3 season-opening win over the Flying G's Tuesday, Aug. 25.
Gladwin struck first about seven minutes into the contest, but Trombley and Williams scored the game's next two goals to give the Panthers a 2-1 lead by halftime.
Gladwin knotted the score at 2-apiece just three minutes into the second half before Trombley netted his second goal on a one-on-one chance against the Flying G's keeper, giving the Panthers a 3-2 lead.
But Gladwin refused to go away and tied the score once again, but Trombley responded with his third goal of the game to give the Panthers the lead they'd never relinquish.
Williams then added a pair of insurance goals later in the second half to secure the victory.
Trombley registered nine shots on goal and scored on three, while Williams scored his three goals on five shots at the net.
Keeper Cody Bechtel posted the win in goal for the Panthers, making nine saves, while defensive teammate John Trombley snuffed out a Gladwin scoring chance in the second half from his sweeper position when the Panthers led by just one goal.
