The other side
The Christmas season is crazy from start to finish.
People in the stores are crazy. Traffic is crazy, and yes — your family is crazy.
I think that everyone’s family is little crazy in their own way, but we get used to our own form of crazy, it’s our other family members who we think are truly crazy.
Whether we like to admit it or not, everyone has a couple of family members who are a little off the wall. You know, those ones whose apple has taken a strange roll away from the ol’ family tree.
We all have those family members it’s no secret. Some people worry about going over to the in-laws house, and the kids are scared to see a few of their cousins.
And let’s be honest. When there is a house made for only a couple of people, and you cram 20 or 30 people in that house, it’s going to become a zoo.
I personally enjoy the craziness. As journalist you learn how to become a good people watcher. There are even times when I can predict that something bad is going to happen. So I stop everything that I am doing and just sit and watch.
Although Christmas can be crazy at times, it is still one of the best days of the entire year.
For one, I always have to wake up to my little brother yelling in my face that Santa came and left gifts. This is Christmas number 24 for me, so Santa has come to our house a lot. And getting up at 5 a.m. is not easy.
Then we scramble to our grandparents’ different houses and have two full meals, which are always fantastic by the way. It is like the day is one big rush.
Later in the evening, my concern turns to the television, where the Lakers are always playing. I get all excited about every small detail of the game, and 99 percent of my relatives mock me as the game goes on.
To get back on track, Christmas is crazy, and it always will be. I truly look forward to seeing all of my crazy relatives, or maybe it’s my household that’s crazy?
Well, here’s to the crazies, each and every one of us.
