The DooDads kickoff New Year at Standish Art Center

STANDISH — On Sunday, Jan. 11 at 2 p.m. the DooDads are the featured entertainers for the 2nd Sunday Concert Series at the Northeast Michigan Art Council (NEMAC) in Standish.

This home grown bluegrass band hails from the Saginaw Valley and its premier, old time music exuberates high energy that leaves you wanting more! The DooDads are the Saginaw Valley’s keepers of an American music tradition. The four-piece, all-acoustic band was formed in 2003 to perform bluegrass and traditional American music. Its strong vocal and instrumental work has led to the band’s rising popularity and membership in the Michigan Bluegrass Association. The DooDads always work to uphold the band’s motto: “Traditional American music — simple and honest.”

Catholic schoolmates from early childhood, these musicians regrouped to form the DooDad bluegrass band after raising their children and finally getting the guts to ignore the long lists of never ending chores from their high spirited wives. No longer strapped by guilt and household duties, they are now free to play their beloved bluegrass music a couple of nights a week — as long as it’s okay with their “buttercups!”

All tickets are sold at the door when the NEMAC box office opens at 1:30 p.m. the day of performance. Ticket prices are $7/adult; $6/senior citizen; $4/student and $2/children under 12 years of age. For additional information, contact the Art Coucnil at 989-846-9331. The concert series is underwritten in part by the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs.
