Teen killed in Ogemaw County snowmobile accident

OGEMAW COUNTY — A 14-year-old boy was killed in a snowmobile accident late Monday evening.

According to a press release from the Michigan State Police, Alex Sapp, 14, was killed when the snowmobile he was driving hit a dock on Grebe Lake at the Rifle River Recreation Area near Lupton at around 9:45 p.m.

Sapp’s passenger, 15-year-old John Kovach, was treated at West Branch Regional Medical Center and released. Both were wearing helmets at the time of the accident.

Relatives have been contacted. Trooper Wirth and trooper Gough are investigating, assisted by Ogemaw County EMS, the Lupton Fire Department, Ogemaw County Sheriff’s Office and Department of Natural Resources.

The accident remains under investigation.
