WHITTEMORE — Tawas Area pitcher Nikki Stein accepted a scholarship Tuesday to play at Lake Superior State University. Later in the afternoon, she showed why, striking out 17 Whittemore-Prescott batters in the first game and tossing a five-inning no-hitter in the second of a 6-3, 10-0 Tawas sweep.

Stein allowed four hits and two earned runs in the opener and walked one batter. Tawas got a run in the second on Amber Hunt's RBI single, added another run on a bases loaded walk to Stein and made it 3-0 in the fourth as Hunt scored on a passed ball.

Tawas led 5-0 in the fifth when the Cards came back as Heidi Killingbeck's RBI double scored Cortney Bork and Killingbeck scored on a throwing error.

Christie Cooper scored on a wild pitch in the sixth for Tawas, while W-P answered with back-to-back doubles from Chelsea Jasman and Bork to get back to within three.

Heather Hinkley took the loss for W-P, allowing three hits and two earned runs, walking 13 and striking out nine.

Stein allowed just three walks and a hit batter in the second game, striking out 10 and not allowing a batter past second base.

Lyndsey and Lauren Look each had two hits to lead Tawas (2-0, 2-0 NEMC), with Lauren Look hitting a triple and driving in two runs. Katie LaHaye also had two RBIs for the Braves.

Ali Bronson took the loss for W-P (2-4, 0-2 NEMC), giving up six hits and eight walks while walking two.
