STANDISH-STERLING - Oct. 8, 2008 - Standish-Sterling hopes for a similar performance to Wednesday's outing at Tawas Area, and Braves' coach Ken Cook hopes for a little more focus out of his squad when the teams meet again in district tournament play on Monday, Oct. 13.

Tawas topped the Panthers 2-1 to wrap up an unbeaten North East Michigan Conference season, but it wasn't easy.

"We did a nice job passing today," Cook said. "But we lacked focus and had too many errant shots."

Tawas took a 2-0 halftime lead on goals by D.J. Decker and Cody Jordan. Aran Freel and Decker picked up assists on the goals.

SSC got back in the game in the second half as Tanner Trombley scored to cut the deficit in half, but the Panthers got no closer.

Cody Bechtel made 17 saves for SSC (6-10-1, 4-6 NEMC) while J.D. Putz had four for Tawas (14-3-2, 10-0).

The two squads play again in Tawas on Monday.
