Standish woman gets star makeover

STANDISH — Janelle Daniels, 24, of Standish, was a star, briefly, when she flew to New York City (NYC) for a makeover Tuesday, Aug. 26 as a guest on the “Tyra Banks Show.”

“The whole experience was surreal,” Daniels said. “I keep telling my friends how I still can’t believe it.”

According to Daniels, Tyra Banks’ “Glam Squad”, who are contractually obligated to do only Banks' hair and makeup, were the ones that performed her make-over.

“That was a thrill.” Daniels said. “It took about two hours to do everything, all the extensions and the fake eyelashes. I didn’t know I could look that good.”

Daniels also says during the show, she actually got to walk down the runway.

“Not too many people get to do that,” Daniels said.

She received a surprise after the show, too, as a renowned photographer flew in from Los Angeles to do a photo shoot.

“He worked with me and coached me through the whole thing,” Daniels said. “So that was pretty nice.”

Also during her trip to NYC, Daniels had the opportunity to meet with Banks, a former model and actress turned talk-show host, one-on-one for about an hour and a half after the makeover was complete.

“It was amazing, she was real.” Daniels said. “She was a completely normal person during our whole conversation.”

Daniels added upon her arrival to the Tyra set, one of the first things the show’s crew did was take her to an apartment, which for show purposes was said to be hers, to shoot a precursor for the show to introduce the audience to Daniels.

The Standish native admits this wasn’t the first show she has applied to be on. Through a Web site that she frequently visits,, she has tried to land a spot on “Bad Girls Club” and MTV’s “Real World.” She hopes to get a slot on another reality show, but doesn’t know which one.

“It’s kind of hard because they don’t tell you what the show is about or any kind of description,” said Daniels.

The show aired on Monday, Sept. 8. To see more pictures of Daniels experience, visit
