Standish businesses prepare for annual Kids Day activities

STANDISH — Businesses throughout Standish are preparing crafts and activities for the city’s annual Kids Day celebration Dec. 8.

“It’s a nice time for people to come into the stores and see what they have,” Standish Chamber of Commerce President Ruth Caldwell said. “It’s also something for the kids to do for the holidays.”

The events kick off at 8 a.m., when Santa Claus hosts a breakfast at St. Mary’s of Michigan Standish Hospital. The breakfast concludes at 10 a.m.

Following the breakfast and running from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m., six businesses in Standish will have crafts for children to come in and do. Citizens Bank, Little Joe’s, McDonald’s, the Standish Historical Depot, Shopko, and Fergie’s Pizza (formerly PQ’s Pizza) will each have crafts available.

The Arenac County Independent is partnering with Fergie’s Pizza for its craft, and plans on magnetic ornaments. Letters to Santa may also be submitted there.

Caldwell said each business decides what it wants to do for their craft, and little specially designed paper bags will be available at each business from the chamber for kids to put what they make into.

Aside from the addition of Fergie’s Pizza and Shopko, Caldwell said it would be effectively identical to previous years’ Kids Days.

“It’s just a fun day for the kids, and their parents too,” Caldwell said.
