Special meeting called to discuss water and sewer rates
STANDISH — The Standish City Council has called a special meeting March 3 at 6 p.m. to discuss a recent study on water and sewer rates.
The council also motioned for water and sewer customers to receive a credit for being overcharged for October, November and December usage. This credit will be seen on the April 1 bill.
Effective Jan. 1, water rates were raised $2.40 per 1,000 gallons, while the sewer rate increased $1.65 per 1,000 gallons. Some residents and businesses had been charged the increased rates for their October through December sewer and water usage.
In other council news, interviews for the clerk/treasurer position were held on Feb. 22 and 23.
Peggy Burtch was sworn in as an interim clerk/treasurer at the Jan. 21 council meeting. The board members laid off former city clerk Becky Lakin at a Jan. 14 meeting, when they decided to consolidate the clerk and treasurer positions.
