Senior center developers opt for West Branch over Standish

STANDISH — A senior center proposed to be built in Standish this year is taking a back seat to one that will be owned and built by the same company, but in West Branch.
On May 7, it was reported in “The Arenac County Independent” that “The Horizon Senior Living Center,” an assisted living center built exclusively by DeShano Construction, of Gladwin, was going to be erected this year on Airpark Drive at a lot DeShano has a purchasing option on with the city, approved April 21.
However, Erin Schuler, Horizon Senior Living Center Administrator, said at the time the purchasing option was approved by the city, DeShano was also looking at building similar centers in West Branch and Grayling this year.
“We’re going where the need is greatest,” Schuler said, adding the need was determined by feedback to ads ran in newspapers in the areas the centers were being proposed.
