PINCONNING — Residents of Arenac and Bay counties with questions regarding their property tax assessments will have the opportunity to have them answered at a special town hall meeting being held by State Rep. Joel Johnson R-Clare and State Sen. Mike Green R-Mayville.

The meeting will be held March 3 at 6 p.m. at the Boys and Girls Club Gymnasium in Pinconning.

Johnson said the meeting is open to anyone who wishes to attend and does not require advanced registration.

“It’s just an informative seminar,” Johnson said. “It’s to help people learn more about their property tax assessment.”

Johnson said that residents with children should feel free to bring them, because the Boys and Girls Club will be providing activities during the meeting.

According to Johnson, Mark Avery, founder of www.overtaxedproperty.com, will be speaking at the meeting as well. He said Avery is highly experienced in handling property tax assessments.

Johnson said that residents who have specific questions should feel free to bring their assessments with them.

“If (residents) have a specific question, some of us there can hopefully help them,” Johnson said, adding that anyone who feels there is an error on their assessment should speak with their assessor, city or township.

“If they have a legitimate concern, many times, the assessor can handle it right off,” Johnson said.

Johnson said that, at the very least, residents should leave feeling more comfortable about their assessments.

“They (will) have a better understanding of how their assessments are arrived at,” Johnson said.
