Standish-Sterling nearly came all the way back from a 14-point halftime deficit, but Travis Garbulinski (32) and Pinconning held on to claim a 56-46 victory that gave the Spartans a two-game lead over the Panthers, Tawas and Ogemaw atop the NEMC.

Tarra Caverly and the Hale girls basketball team survived a rough-and-tumble contest with Hillman on Thursday to move over .500 in the North Star League. The Eagles' 45-34 victory tied them with AuGres-Sims for the league's third-place spot just past the midpoint of the conference season.
