Sand Lake area resident charged with involuntary manslaughter

Victim was 5-month-old daughter

GRANT TWP. — Troopers from the West Branch Michigan State Police Post arrested 26-year-old Heather Host Sept. 11, and the following day she was charged with homicide via involuntary manslaughter, first-degree child abuse and lying to a peace officer.

A press release from the MSP said the charges against Host stem from an April 23 incident at her home in Grant Township in Iosco County. The victim in the incident, according to the press release, was Amiah Muszall, Host’s 5-month-old daughter.

Involuntary manslaughter carries a punishment of up to 15 years in prison and $7,000 in fines. First-degree child abuse carries a sentence of life or any number of years in prison. Lying to a peace officer carries a maximum penalty of four years in prison and up to $5,000 in fines.

Host was arraigned in 81st District Court in Iosco County.
