STANDISH-STERLING - Oct. 2, 2008 - Standish-Sterling's soccer team cut a four-goal halftime deficit in half Thursday, but couldn't keep up with Alcona's high-flying offense as the Tigers defeated SSC 9-2 in a non-conference match-up.
Alcona took a 4-0 lead into halftime, but the Panthers got on the scoreboard via a goal from Garrett Russell, who finished off Tanner Trombley's shot off the crossbar and the Alcona keeper. Trombley later scored himself, winning a one-on-one with the Alcona keeper.
That only served to reawaken the Tigers, who scored five more goals in the second half.
SSC (6-8-1) travels to John Glenn on Monday, Oct. 6.
