SUTTONS BAY - Oct. 17, 2008 - Standish-Sterling kept its hopes for an unbeaten regular season alive Friday, traveling nearly three hours to Suttons Bay and beating the Norsemen 44-6.

Despite playing against a very physical squad, the Panthers bolted to a 37-6 halftime lead.

"We played a very good game against a very physical team," said SSC coach Paul Walderzak. "It can be tough, riding a bus for three hours, getting off and having to play against a pretty solid team. I give our guys a lot of credit on a solid effort."

The Panthers led 14-0 after the first quarter touchdown runs of nine and 52 yards by quarterback Austin Collier. They really put it away in the second period, starting with Adam Gulvas' sack in the end zone for a safety that made it 16-0.

The Panthers added a 26-yard Collier run, a 47- yard touchdown on a screen pass from Collier to Casey Potts and a 20-yard run by Trevor Trombley.

Trombley, who also hit all six PAT attempts, added a 10-yard run in the third quarter for the final score of the game.

Suttons Bay scored in the second quarter on a 59-yard halfback pass.

Collier finished with 127 rushing yards on 11 carries and 87 yards through the air on 6-of-9 passing. Trombley added 64 yards on 12 carries and Trent Fouchey had 50 yards on three carries.

Mark Lorence caught three passes for 22 yards and Cole Walderzak had two catches for 19 yards. Gulvas finished with eight tackles and his sack for a safety; Josh Augustine added seven tackles, and Mitchell McFarland and Brad Sobieray each had four tackles.

The Panthers also didn't turn the ball over once and were flagged for just five penalties, well off their pace from earlier in the season.

SSC wraps up the regular season at Frankenmuth (4-4) on Friday, Oct. 24, then await word on Sunday who their playoff opponent will be.

"I expect this to be a tough contest," Walderzak said. "Frankenmuth has an excellent program and to play them at their place is tough anytime. We will have to be ready to play our best."
