SSC mourning loss of student

STANDISH — Students and faculty at Standish-Sterling Central High School are morning the loss of 18-year-old junior Tommy Osier after his body was recovered from a silo at a farm where he was working.
According to Dan Chapman, fire chief of the Gibson Township Fire Department said Osier was working at a farm on Stevenson Road on Monday morning around 9 a.m. when the department was called to the scene.
He said the department recovered Osier’s body after they arrived on the scene.
“It was a difficult recovery,” he said.
Principal Roger Fritz said the school was “quiet and somber” Tuesday morning.
“The kids here are visibly upset today,” he said.
Fritz said students have begun writing their thoughts down on a poster they created to remember Osier.
“Our goal is to get through today,” he said.
Fritz said Osier will be missed.
“He was a likable young man and our thoughts and prayers go out to his family,” he said.
Fritz said counselors are available for students to talk to.
The Gibson Township Fire Department was assisted by the Mt. Forrest Fire Department. Members of the Standish Area Fire Authority and the rescue team from the Bay City Fire Department.
