SSC girls basketball accumulated third-highest GPA in class B

STANDISH — The Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan has recognized the Standish-Sterling girls basketball team’s achievements in the classroom, by honoring the Lady Panthers with an academic all-state award.

SSC carried a 3.738 grade point average, topping all but two class B teams — Brooklyn Columbia Central (3.859) and Whitehall (3.786).

“We’ve got most of these girls returning next year, and we’re hoping to be right at the top,” said Standish-Sterling girls basketball coach Kevin King. “It’s great to see that they’re not only great athletes, but great students as well.

“I like the message that it sends to younger players, that you can’t have one without the other.”
