STANDISH — Standish-Sterling got a first-half goal from Ashley Wakulat on Tuesday and played to a 1-1 tie with Essexville Garber in the Panthers' season-opener.
Wakulat's score held up until five minutes left in the second half, when Garber scored the equalizer.
"All things considered — cold, wind and it being our first game — I was fine with the outcome," said SSC coach John Rudberg. "I'm sure the Garber coaches feel the same way."
The Panthers got 16 saves in goal from Kelsey Prohaska.
SSC plays at Gladwin on Thursday.
