Route Authority hosting wild game dinner

STANDISH — Supporters of the Standish Historical Depot have a reason to dress classy, and casual.

The seventh annual Diamonds, Denim and Camo Depot Dinner will be held at the Veterans of Foreign Wars hall in Standish, on Saturday, March 19.

Arenac Heritage Route Authority President Curt Hillman said the dinner is one of the largest fundraising events for the depot during the year.

“We have raised anywhere from $5,000 to $10,000 for operation of the depot in the past few years,” he said. “This dinner is meant to be casual.”

He said the Arenac Heritage Route Authority hopes to see a large number of people at the event.

“We have tried a number of different advertising techniques to promote this year’s event,” he said. “We have been to places like (Dow Diamond) in Midland, and we have gotten some good responses.”

While at Dow Diamond, Hillman said the authority had samples of beaver barley soup for people to try.

“The dinner will be catered by Dixie Dave Minar, and it’s a true wild game dinner,” he said. “For the purist out there, we will have pork loin available.”

Hillman said that the meal will be served buffet style so guests can try everything. Menu items include buffalo meatballs, beaver barley soup, buffalo chili, along with other wild game dishes.

“This is not your typical meat and potatoes dinner,” he said.

Hillman said the event is a great way for the community to support the Standish Historical Depot.

“I think that over the past few years the depot has become a nice focal point for Standish,” he said. “I think people are starting to see that.”

Social hour and appetizers begin at 5:30 p.m., with dinner starting at 6 p.m. Tickets are being sold at $50 a person, or $400 for a group of 10 people.

Tickets are available at the Standish Historical Depot and, by contacting members of the Arenac Heritage Route Authority. For more information, call 989-718-3012.
