Pinny wrestlers bring home championship trophy

CARROLLTON — Pinconning's wrestling team swept through the field at the Carrollton Team Invitational on Saturday to bring home the championship trophy while sporting a 5-0 mark on the day.

The Spartans beat Saginaw Nouvel 47-33, Lake Fenton 43-33, Michigan Lutheran Seminary 57-24, Merrill 72-18 and Frankenmuth 62-18.

Going unbeaten on the day were Taylor Pomaville (112 pounds), Adam Pawelski (119), Tyler Wieland (130), Charles Burch 145), Colton Lucynski (160) and Coty Swinson (189). Tyler Espitia (135), Seth Haas (140), and Brian Hardy (152) each went 4-1, with Arthur Espitia (103) at 3-2 and John Stark at 2-2.

Pinny (24-6) hosts John Glenn and Oscoda on Wednesday. The Spartans-Bobcats features what have been the top two teams in the North East Michigan Conference so far this season.
