OSCODA — Wednesday night Standish-Sterling looked to find its first win on the season as it traveled to Oscoda for a Northeast Michigan Conference match-up. First-half action saw the Panthers control the tempo of the game, but they were unsuccessful in all scoring attempts. An error by goalkeeper Cody Bechtel allowed the Owls to take a 1-0 lead into the second half. Goals came easy in the second half for both teams as the scoreboard tried its best impression of a car odometer. Two minutes in, the Owls scored on a corner kick. Two minutes later Standish struck back with a goal of its own by Garrett Russell. Following the kickoff, the Owls drove down and put in their third goal of the contest. Standish-Sterling controlled the next fifteen minutes of the game, but was unsuccessful in the strong push. Oscoda then slipped a goal in off the post to put the score at 4-1. Reluctant to give up, Shay Irving proceeded to take over the game dribbling down and scoring twice in the next few minutes. Unfortunately, Standish-Sterling ran out of time as the game ended 4-3. Shots-on-goal for the Panthers were accumulated by Shay Irving (four), Tanner Trombley (three), Kevin Schmidt (three) and Garrett Russell (two). Goalkeeper Cody Bechtel has six saves on ten shots.
