Panthers claw back for second-half win


STANDISH — The Standish-Sterling Central boys’ basketball team clawed its way back from an early deficit to snag a 46-43 win from Coleman on Dec. 16.

The Panthers fell behind 29-21 at the end of the first half, but was able to hold the Comets to just 14 points in the second half. Impressive, the Panthers clutch performance outscored Coleman 14 to 5 in the fourth quarter.

Junior center Cole Walderczak led the Panthers with 11 points; Robert Sanch followed with eight; and Mitchell McFarland added six.

For the Comets, Jon Dyer put up 17 points in the loss and Kyle Guisbert chipped in with 10.

SSC (1-1, 0-0) hosts the Tawas Area Braves on Friday, Dec. 18 with the J.V. squads kicking off the action at 6 p.m.
