STANDISH — A long time downtown Standish business will close its doors for good in the near future, as Norman’s in Standish is closing due to the retirement of the business’ owner, Stan Norman.

Mike Zimmerman, an accountant who worked with Norman for many years and holds power of attorney over his assets, told the Independent Nov. 11 that all five Norman’s stores will are closing. Norman’s are also located in Bay City, East Tawas, Bad Axe and Gaylord.

Zimmerman said Stan Norman was ready to retire and there was no one in line to assume ownership.

“The owner’s retired, and there’s no one in place to take over, so he’s decided to close the stores,” he said.

This week, a retirement sale is scheduled to begin, and Zimmerman said the store is expected to be closed early in 2014.

“The sale starts this Thursday the 14th,” he said. “We expect to close sometime in January.”
