Au GRES — Two duck hunters and their dog were rescued as their boat sank a half-mile out from the mouth of the Au Gres River the morning of Oct. 19.
The Au Gres-Sims-Whitney Fire Department, the Au Gres Police Department, and the Arenac County Sheriff’s Department responded to a call about the boat taking on water at about 11 a.m. Oct. 19. According to Undersheriff Don McIntyre, the 18-foot boat was taking on water via the boat’s transom, and its bilge pump was not working. As a result, the ship began sinking.
McIntyre said emergency responders arrived in two rescue boats while the hunting vessel was partially submerged, and were able to get the two passengers, residents of Otisville, and their dog clear before the boat sank entirely.
McIntyre said no one was injured, and the hunting boat was tugged back to shore.
