Lady Wolverines top Mio with strong shooting performance
MIO — AuGres-Sims' strong night shooting from the floor overcame the Wolverines' struggles at the free throw line Monday in a 51-41 victory at Mio-AuSable.
AGS (12-7, 8-5 North Star League) led 29-23 at the half and built up a 42-31 lead heading to the fourth quarter. The Wolverines' 42 percent shooting from the floor was one of their best performances of the season, but going 12-of-37 at the free throw line helped keep the game closer than it might have been.
"In a lot of ways we played one of our best games of the season," said AGS coach Gordie Ostrander. "But we couldn't buy a free throw. We work on them all the time and shoot them pretty well in practice."
Mio, which had six of its seven players with either four or five fouls, shot only one free throw in the entire game.
Adriane Swaffield was 5-of-6 from the floor and finished with 14 points and eight rebounds, while Emily Lutz had 14 points, 10 assists and seven rebounds and Shelby Schwiderson scored nine points.
Kayla Lefler scored 14 for Mio (5-13, 3-10).
