PINCONNING — Pinconning's girls’ basketball team was much more competitive in its second go-around with league-leading Tawas Area than in its first, but it still wasn't enough.
The Spartans, who lost 77-34 at Tawas a couple weeks ago, trailed the Braves just 28-23 at the half before Tawas pulled away to a 53-39 victory on Tuesday.
Jessica Vidalez scored 14 points to lead Pinny, with Lauren Pilot adding 13. Vidalez was held to just five points in the first half, but a six-point outburst from Chelsea Adcock helped keep the Spartans in the game.
Rachel Adaline paced Tawas with 17 points; Molly Stoll added 11 and Gina Gerow tallied eight.
The Braves (17-2, 9-0 NEMC) wrapped up sole possession of the league title with the win and can finish unbeaten in league play with a victory at John Glenn on Friday.
